ROUND ROBIN RESULTS

Posted: 05 Jul 2009 12:25 AM PDT

Ireland and England shared top spot at the conclusion of the weekends Youth international round robin at the National Stadium in Dublin this afternoon.
Both nations finished level on 40 points to share the Tommy Murphy shield. Germany (24 points), and Italy (6 points), finished in third and fourth spot.
Ireland and England received walkovers versus the Italians to arrive at their total.
England beat Germany 6-4 this morning, a result that meant that the hosts had to win all their bouts against Italy this afternoon to tie the series.
And the Irish team did just that, winning five contests, courtesy of triumphs for Gary Molloy, Mark O'Hara, Jamie Kennedy, Jason Quigley and Ciaran O'Griofa.
Kennedy was involved in a thrilling contest with Dennis Piva, the Toome ace pulling away in the final few seconds to register a deserved 12-9 win.
Quigley meantime, had to come from behind to see off the challenge of Mirko Geografo by a one point margin.
Meantime, today's England versus Germany meeting also featured an "Ali versus Fraser" clash.
England's Clarke Fraser and Germany's Ali Krydan went head-to-head at super heavyweight thirty four years after Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier completed their epic trilogy in the "Thrilla in Manila."
Ali won today's "re-match", earning a 13-7 victory after four hard hitting rounds. Both boxers also earned an extended round of applause after a top class contest.
Earlier this morning, Ireland's Chris Phelan beat England's Robert Curry 17-2. Phelan was ahead 4-0 at the end of round one, 10-1 up at the end of round two and added another seven points to his tally in the final two frames to cap an impressive winning margin.

ROUND ROBIN RESULTS DAY 2

Posted: 04 Jul 2009 07:29 AM PDT

Ireland beat a talented German side  8-2 at the National Stadium in Dublin tonight.
Gary Molloy, Sean McComb and James Fryers raced Ireland into a 3-0 lead, McComb using his reach advantage to earn an fine 7-1 victory over Koray Bedir.
Speaking after his second victory in 24 hours Molly said: "I though I deserved the win as I worked very hard for it. But fair play to my opponent, he boxed very well."
But Germany pulled one back when Niklas Guler, who took two standing counts, edged out the unlucky Mark O'Hara by a two point margin.

Alexander Maurer then reduced the deficit to 3-2 with a narrow 2-1 over the hard working Jamie Kennedy.
However, Jason Quigley extended Ireland's lead to 4-2 with an impressive win over Marco Grund.
Quigley picked up the pace in the second round of this encounter to improve his first frame lead from 1-0 to 4-0. The Finn Valley clubman then added another two points to his total to earn a 6-0 decision.
Meanwhile, Conrad Cummins ensured that Ireland couldn't be beaten on the night with an excellent 17-4 win over Aduard Dause.
And Patrick Ward put Ireland into an unassailable 6-2 lead after coming from behind to force tall German light heavyweight Waldislaw Tepliakow into two standing counts en route to a 7-6 victory.
The German didn't do himself any favours when he received a public warning for holding in the final ten seconds of this encounter. However, Ward was a deserved winner on the night.
Ciaran O'Griofa and Sean Turner sealed the 8-2 win for the hosts with victories over Donat Avidinaj and Ali Krydin. O'Griofa equalised with seven seconds remaining on the clock before taking a double count-back decision.
Turner meanwhile, held his composure in the face of a furious first round onslaught from Krydin to post a 14-4 victory.
